The eighth stop on the 2026 Diamond League tour turned into the fastest meeting of the season. On Sunday 28 June at Stade Charlety, four meeting or Diamond League records fell, an Olympic 100m champion was beaten, and the women's 800m world record moved another step closer.

Bromell upsets Lyles in the 100m

The headline shock came in the men's 100m, where **Trayvon Bromell** got the better of Olympic champion **Noah Lyles** in a thrilling showdown. Running from lane eight, Bromell blasted out of the blocks and held his form to cross the line in **9.91 seconds**. Lyles, known for his unmatched top-end speed, closed the gap late but lost by a single hundredth of a second, finishing second in **9.92 seconds**.

The race was stacked with talent, seeing Tokyo 2020 champion **Lamont Marcell Jacobs** finish third in a season's best **9.96**, followed closely by **Akani Simbine** (9.97) and **Jordan Anthony** (9.99).

This marks Bromell's first Diamond League win of the year and hands Lyles his first defeat of the season. After the race, Bromell praised his compatriot, calling Lyles a "fighter" and a "champion," adding that the victory showed his own perseverance against a great field. Werro's 800m and a stacked middle distance

**Audrey Werro** produced the performance of the night, running **1:53.80** for a Diamond League record and the third-fastest women's 800m in history — her second league record in as many weeks. Full detail in our [Audrey Werro 800m world record watch](/blog/audrey-werro-800m-world-record).

The men's 800m was almost as fast. **Marco Arop** of Canada burst clear after 500m and won in **1:41.84**, the fastest time in the world this year, nearly two seconds ahead of the field.

Why it mattered

Meetings like this show how deep the current era of middle-distance and 400m running has become. The women's 800m in particular is producing times unimaginable a couple of years ago, and the world record chase now runs straight into the **London Diamond League on 19 July**, where Keely Hodgkinson is expected to make her attempt.
